Preparing for 2nd Grade...

If you want your child to be ready for 1st grade, help them learn these words over the summer.  You can practice with flashcards or make Bingo games with them.  This will give students a big advantage at the beginning of 1st grade.

Backpacks

Locally-raised N.Y. Yankee pitcher C.C. Sabathia has started a foundation called PitCCh In.  For the past few years, the PitCCh In Foundation has donated backpacks to every 1st grader in VCUSD.  This year, they have expanded their outreach and 2nd graders will be receiving backpacks as well.  The backpacks will be given to students on the 2nd day of school and they also have some supplies in them to start off the school year.  When students bring their backpack home, please remember to write their name on the backpack because they are all identical.
